NIA Conducts Raids Across Tamil Nadu Amid Allegations of LTTE Resurgence
In a significant escalation of efforts to prevent the revival of the Liberation Tigers of
Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive
searches across Tamil Nadu.

These actions are part of a new case involving the
alleged smuggling of arms and narcotics to Sri Lanka, which the agency claims is
intended to support the resurgence of the LTTE
The NIA carried out searches at 22 locations in Tamil Nadu, targeting individuals
suspected of involvement in these illicit activities.

The raids took place in Chennai,
Tiruppur, Chengalpattu, and Thiruchirapally districts. According to an NIA statement,
the individuals targeted in these raids have been operating in India and Sri Lanka
and working for the revival of LTTE and to further its violent activities.

The case, registered suo motu by the NIA on 23 October, includes charges under
sections 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 18, 20, 38, 39, and 40 of the
Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and various sections of the Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Additionally, members of Freedom Hunters For Tamils, a human rights organization
advocating for the fundamental rights of Tamils, have reported increasing
harassment.

Family members of activists associated with the group have been
visited by NIA officials and pressured to bring their relatives back to India.

These
individuals are accused of attempting to rebuild the LTTE while residing in the United
Kingdom.

Freedom Hunters For Tamils has condemned these actions, asserting that they are
part of a broader campaign to intimidate and silence Tamil activists. The organization
maintains that its activities are focused solely on advocating for human rights and
justice for Tamils, not on any militant operations.

As the NIA continues its crackdown, the situation for Tamil activists, both in India and
abroad, remains fraught with tension and danger.

Human rights organizations and
the international community are closely monitoring these developments, which
highlight ongoing concerns about the legacy of the LTTE and the rights of Tamil
people.
